About Mount Gravatt

Mount Gravatt is a southern suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, about 10 km south-south-east of the Brisbane CBD. It takes its name from the hill and lookout of the same name within the suburb, which was named in 1840 after Lieutenant George Gravatt, a commander of the Moreton Bay penal colony. The area, known to the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples as the place of echidnas, has been settled since a state school opened there in 1874.
