About Herston
Herston is an inner suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located 5.2 kilometres north of the Brisbane central business district. First settled by Europeans in the 1850s, the suburb was named after a house called Herston built by Sir Robert Herbert, Queensland's first Premier, and his Attorney-General John Bramston who combined their surnames to create the name. The suburb is dominated by the Herston Health Precinct which includes the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the A$1.1 billion Herston Quarter redevelopment of the former Royal Children's Hospital site. Also located in the suburb are Ballymore Stadium, Victoria Park with its heritage-listed golf clubhouse and the University of Queensland Mayne Medical School.
