About Gumdale

Gumdale is an outer residential suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located 15.6 kilometres east-southeast of the Brisbane central business district in Chandler Ward. Originally called Grassdale after the grass trees that grew in the district, the name was changed in 1942 when a post office was established to avoid confusion with Grassdale in South Australia. The Grassdale Land Company Limited was formed on 8 January 1885 to acquire the Grassdale Paddocks property. Gumdale State School was renamed from Grassdale State School in July 1942 and the Gumdale Hall opened on 10 September 1937. The suburb is described as Brisbane's nearest acreage suburb to the CBD with 95 percent of lots being acreages of 5,000 to 10,000 square metres, retaining a rural character.
