About Stapleton

Stapleton is a rural locality in the Coomalie Shire of the Northern Territory, on Stapleton Creek about 10 kilometres north-west of Adelaide River and 114 kilometres south of Darwin. The area dates from the 1870s gold rush, when mining claims were established and a hotel operated beside the creek. The railway siding supported mining and pastoral industries and during World War II served as a supply point for troops. Today the locality is characterised by agricultural properties and scattered dwellings.
