About Finniss Valley

Finniss Valley is a remote rural locality on the Cox Peninsula in the Northern Territory, located approximately 80 kilometres north of Darwin near the mouth of the Finniss River. The area is known for its wildlife-rich tidal flats, mangroves and paperbark forests, and the Finniss River and surrounding wetlands are prized for barramundi fishing and wildlife watching. The locality is named after Colonel Boyle Travers Finniss, the first Government Resident of the Northern Territory.
