About Ilparpa
Ilparpa is an outer suburb of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, situated on the traditional Country of the Arrernte people. The name means yam or bush tucker in the Arrernte language, and the community is home to speakers of Luritja and Pitjantjatjara as well as Arrernte. The semi-arid landscape features red soil, sparse vegetation and views across to the MacDonnell Ranges, and the Ilparpa community was first incorporated in 1979 to support residents' efforts to secure tenure, housing and essential services.
