About Jingili

Jingili is a northern suburb of Darwin in the City of Darwin, Northern Territory, located 11.6 kilometres from the Darwin central business district and 2 kilometres from Casuarina Square shopping centre. Named after the Jingili people, an Aboriginal tribe from around Elliott in the middle of the Northern Territory, the land itself is the traditional country and waterways of the Larrakia people. Established in the 1970s, the suburb's streets are named after Flying Officers killed in the Darwin area during World War II and local people killed in action in France or Belgium during World War I, giving it a distinctive commemorative character. The Water Gardens parkland is a notable feature. Jingili Primary School, a pre-school and day-care centre and one of Darwin's oldest cemeteries near Rapid Creek are within the suburb. The suburb is in the territory electorate of Johnston and the federal Division of Solomon. The suburb had a population of 1,757 at the 2016 census.
