About Darwin River
Darwin River is a rural locality in the Litchfield Municipality of the Northern Territory, situated about 40 kilometres south-east of Darwin city centre. The Darwin River, named in 1869 by surveyor George Goyder, flows through the locality and gives it its name. The Darwin River Dam, constructed in the early 1970s, supplies approximately 85 per cent of the Darwin region's water needs. The area is characterised by open eucalypt woodland and tropical savanna.
