About Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove is an inner northern suburb of Darwin in the Northern Territory, located eight kilometres from the Darwin CBD on the traditional country and waterways of the Larrakia people. Established in 1962, the suburb was named for the grove of coconuts along the coastal fringe. Most streets are named after local Darwin residents, interstate visitors and crew who died in the shipwreck of the SS Gothenburg off the Queensland coast in 1875. Bounded by Progress Drive, Bagot Road, Totem Road and the Darwin Harbour foreshore, Coconut Grove is usually associated with the adjacent suburbs of Nightcliff, Millner and Rapid Creek.
