About Shalvey
Shalvey is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, located 48 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD in the City of Blacktown. Named after Patrick Shalvey (1866-1962), a wholesale and retail butcher who acquired grazing properties there in 1906, its name derives from the main road, originally a crown subdivisional road. Developed for public housing by the NSW Housing Commission in the 1960s and 1970s, Shalvey features terrace-style complexes now being replaced by modern private homes. It includes a small shopping precinct known as Shalvey Shops.
