About Blackett

Blackett is a residential suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, located 48 kilometres west of the central business district in the local government area of the City of Blacktown, part of the Greater Western Sydney region. The suburb occupies approximately one square kilometre of the Cumberland Plain at an elevation of around 50 metres. Blackett takes its name from George Forster Blackett, superintendent of the Government Cattle Station at Rooty Hill from 1820 to 1830. Developed from the 1970s onward under the New South Wales Housing Commission's Mount Druitt public housing scheme, the suburb's streets are themed after Australian writers and poets. It is bounded to the east by the Westlink M7 motorway and contains cycleway connections linking to the broader Sydney network, with Poppondetta Park as a notable local green space.
