About Balmoral (Wingecarribee - NSW)
Balmoral is a village in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales and the northernmost village in Wingecarribee Shire. It grew up in the 1870s as a private railway village on the Main Southern line, known first as Big Hill Lower Siding, then Bargo, before being named Balmoral in 1888. The village was a popular health retreat for Sydney visitors in the late 1800s, but declined after the line was re-routed via Bargo in 1919; the old Loop Line continued to serve it until 1978. Today Balmoral has a village hall and tennis court but no shops.
