About Clunes (NSW)
Clunes is a small town in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, about 18 km north-east of Lismore, on the lands of the Widjabal people of the Bundjalung nation. It was first settled by Europeans in the 1870s after the Robertson Land Act of 1861 allowed free selection of crown land, and a school opened there in 1883. Clunes is nicknamed 'The Holy City' because of its number of early churches.
