About Wallabadah
Wallabadah is a town and locality in the New England region of New South Wales, about 55 km south of Tamworth on the New England Highway, in the Liverpool Plains Shire. Settled as a mail-coach stop in the 1850s, it is home to Australia's first country racing club, founded in 1852, whose Wallabadah Cup is still run on New Year's Day. The district, known to the Kamilaroi people as Thalababuri, carries an Aboriginal name meaning 'stone', and was a haunt of the bushranger Captain Thunderbolt.
