About Somerton (NSW)
Somerton is a village on the Oxley Highway between Tamworth and Gunnedah in northern New South Wales, on the fertile Peel River flats of the Liverpool Plains. First known as Goora, the town site was subdivided into streets and allotments in 1858. The surrounding country, with its rich soils and plentiful aquifers, supports broadacre cropping and large-scale grazing.
