About Gwabegar
Gwabegar is a town in north-eastern New South Wales in the Narrabri Shire, 625 km north-west of Sydney. It sits in the middle of the Pilliga forest, the largest naturally forming cypress pine forest in the Southern Hemisphere. Timber was once the town's mainstay, with twelve sawmills operating, but these have closed and farming is now the main source of income. Gwabegar was the terminus of the Gwabegar railway line, now truncated to Binnaway, with its station opening in 1923.
