About Gowrie (Tamworth Regional - NSW)

Gowrie is a rural locality in the New England region of New South Wales, about 29 km south of Tamworth and west of the New England Highway. It takes its name from a grazing property called Gowrie, taken up by the Whitten family in the early 1870s, possibly after Gowrie in Perthshire, Scotland. The district was opened for settlement under the Robertson Land Acts from 1861, and the locality is bounded by the New England Highway and the Peel Range.
