About Lowesdale
Lowesdale is a small community in the central south of the Riverina in New South Wales, in the Federation Council area, about 92 km east of Berrigan on the Riverina Highway and near the Victorian border. The district is flat Murray-Darling floodplain country given over to cropping and grazing. Lowesdale takes its name from the 'Lowes' parish, itself named after one of the owners of the local Buraja Station. Its post office opened in 1876 and closed in 1994, and the district has a long tradition of country sport, including Australian rules football from the early 1900s.
