About West Kempsey
West Kempsey is a suburb of Kempsey in the Kempsey Shire, New South Wales, located on the western side of the North Coast railway line in the Mid North Coast region. A government town was surveyed here in 1854 and administrative facilities were relocated from the earlier settlement, which became East Kempsey. The suburb lies above the Macleay River floodplain and is not subject to the periodic flooding that affects the central business district. Government buildings including the council chambers and library are located here, forming a secondary commercial centre.
