About Mount Rivers

Mount Rivers is a small rural locality in the Dungog Shire of the Hunter Region, New South Wales, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of East Gresford. First settled in 1825 when John Phillips Webber established the Penshurst estate, the locality was historically known for its cheese production around 1900 and served as a dairy farming community. The Paterson River flows through the area, and a public school operated from 1875 until its closure in 1981.
