About Fowlers Gap
Fowlers Gap is a locality in far north-west New South Wales, about 112 kilometres north of Broken Hill, believed to be named after a squatter, Fowler, who established a trail over the Barrier Range that was used by miners heading for the Albert Goldfields. The locality is home to the UNSW Fowlers Gap Arid Zone Research Station, a 39,000-hectare working sheep property established in 1966 and the only research station in the arid zone of the state, used for long-term studies of kangaroos, birds and arid-zone vegetation.
