About Silverton (NSW)
Silverton is a historic outback village about 26 km north-west of Broken Hill in the far west of New South Wales, on the edge of the Mundi Mundi Plains. It sprang up during the region's silver-mining boom, and the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, later BHP, was formed in its hotel in 1885 before the richer Broken Hill lode eclipsed the town. Silverton is a famous film location, best known as the setting for Mad Max 2, and today attracts visitors to its hotel, gaol museum and the nearby Daydream Mine.
