About Coolah
Coolah is a town in the central west of New South Wales in the Warrumbungle Shire, about 370 kilometres north-west of Sydney. The name comes from a Port Jackson Pidgin English word meaning 'angry'. The town lies where the Liverpool Range rises on its north-eastern side, with the Coolah Tops National Park nearby, and the district is given over to sheep, cattle and cropping along the Talbragar and Coolaburragundy river valleys. Coolah Post Office dates from 1849 and the town was served by its own branch railway from 1920 until 1975. The town stands on country that was traditionally Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi land.
