About Byrock
Byrock is a small village in north-western New South Wales on the Mitchell Highway, roughly halfway between Bourke and Nyngan. Named after the Byrock Rock Holes, known as Bai to the Nyammba people, it was a Cobb and Co coach stop. The railway arrived in 1874 and a branch line to Brewarrina opened in 1900. Byrock also lends its name to an ancient extinct volcanic centre, notable for rare leucitite lava mounds at Bye Hill.
