About Sawtell
Sawtell is a coastal suburb of the City of Coffs Harbour in northern New South Wales, about 10 kilometres south of Coffs Harbour. Originally inhabited by the Gumbaynggirr people, who called the area Bongil Bongil, it takes its name from Oswald Sawtell who subdivided the land in the early 1900s. Bounded by Boambee and Bonville Creeks, with Bongil Bongil National Park to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the east, First Avenue is shaded by Moreton Bay fig trees. Sawtell Beach and an ocean pool on Bonville Headland are notable features.
