About Wambool

Wambool is a small rural locality and civil parish in the Bathurst Region of central western New South Wales, located approximately 20 kilometres east of Bathurst. The name originates from the Wiradjuri Aboriginal language, meaning meandering, and was traditionally used to refer to the Macquarie River. The locality is notable for the Wambool Nature Reserve, a 194-hectare protected area gazetted in 1987 for its geological significance and 226 native plant species including 48 orchid species.
