About Forest Reefs
Forest Reefs is a rural village in Blayney Shire in the Central West of New South Wales, situated approximately 18 kilometres south of Orange and 22 kilometres north-west of Blayney. The area was a significant gold mining district in the 1860s and 1870s, with alluvial and deep lead mining, and a post office opened in 1870. The Forest Reef Tavern, one of the original hotels, remains open in the village. An area identified as Forest Reefs was among sites proposed for the Australian national capital in 1900.
