About Cullen Bullen
Cullen Bullen is a village on the Mudgee Road in the Central West of New South Wales, 28 kilometres north of Lithgow. The name comes from the Wiradjuri language and is believed to mean 'lyrebird'. The district was first surveyed by James Blackman in 1821, and the first land grant was taken up in 1828 by Robert Dulhunty, later the founder of Dubbo. The village had a post office from 1861 and a school from 1875, and today is sustained by local mines and the nearby Mount Piper Power Station.
