About McMahons Reef
McMahons Reef is a sparse rural locality in the South Western Slopes of New South Wales, roughly 35 kilometres north-east of Boorowa within the Hilltops Council area. Named after the historic New McMahons Reef gold mine, the locality reflects the broader region's goldfields heritage dating to the 1860s rushes around Young and Boorowa. Today it is pastoral country used for sheep and cattle grazing on rolling hills.
