About Galong
Galong is a small rural village in the Hilltops region of New South Wales, approximately 30 kilometres north of Harden and one hour's drive from the ACT. Settled around 1830 by Irish convict turned squatter Ned Ryan, the village is known for St Clement's Retreat, a former Redemptorist monastery, and its heritage-listed cemetery featuring marble monuments by Gundagai mason Frank Rusconi. The Galong Limestone Mine and Kiln remain in operation nearby.
