About Laggan
Laggan is a small village in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, in Upper Lachlan Shire about 8 km north-east of Crookwell. It was founded in 1838 by Scottish settler Donald MacPherson, who named it after his boyhood home, and served as a stop for convicts while the roads between Bathurst and Goulburn were being built. In the mid-1800s it was an important stopping point on the road between Goulburn and the Tuena goldfields. The village retains historic buildings including the old police barracks (c.1837), a rebuilt mill and an 1876 Presbyterian Church.
