About Akolele
Akolele is a small rural locality in the Eurobodalla council area on the South Coast of New South Wales, situated on the shores of Wallaga Lake, the largest lake in southern NSW. Mimosa Rocks National Park, named after the paddle steamer Mimosa wrecked in 1863, surrounds the area, and the locality includes Bobundara Swamp to the north and Merriwinga Creek to the south. The land was part of the Wallaga Lake Aboriginal Reserve until 1949, and is believed to contain a sacred Yuin burial ground associated with the elder King Merriman.
