About Campbell
Campbell is a suburb of Canberra at the base of Mount Ainslie, bordering the Mount Pleasant Nature Reserve. It was once part of the Duntroon pastoral property and is named after Robert Campbell, who held the estate from the 1820s; the district was renamed Campbell in 1956. The suburb, which is home to the Australian War Memorial and the Royal Military College, was the first in Canberra designed on the neighbourhood model, with its first residential blocks sold in 1957. The National Prisoner of War Memorial, built around the World War II Changi Chapel, was dedicated there in 1988.
