About Woorabinda

Woorabinda is a rural town and locality in the Aboriginal Shire of Woorabinda in central Queensland, about 170 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton. It is an Aboriginal community whose name is said to mean the place where the kangaroo sits down. The settlement was established in 1927 as a government reserve when residents of the Taroom reserve were moved there, and since 1985 it has been governed by an elected Aboriginal council.
