About Eldorado

Eldorado is a small town in the Rural City of Wangaratta, about 20 kilometres east of Wangaratta in north-east Victoria. It grew from gold discoveries in the mid-1850s, when large sluicing claims operated in the district. The town is known for the preserved Eldorado Dredge, one of the largest of its kind in the world when it began operating in 1936, which mined alluvial gold and tin until 1954 and is now a tourist attraction under the care of Parks Victoria.
