About Templestowe

Templestowe is a suburb of Melbourne about 16 km north-east of the central business district, set on rolling hills above the flood plain of the Yarra River. Its name is thought to be taken from Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe, echoing the neighbouring suburb of Ivanhoe, and it was settled from 1839 by Irish and Scottish pioneers, with a post office by 1860. Until the 1970s much of Templestowe was green-belt land where subdivision was restricted, and today Westerfolds Park, a large riverside park within the Yarra Valley Parklands, preserves that open character.
