About Yakamia
Yakamia is an inner suburb of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, located two kilometres north-east of the Albany CBD. Gazetted in 1979, the name is believed to derive from a Noongar word meaning sister to a small creek. Yakamia Creek runs through the suburb, which is bounded by North Road, Chester Pass Road, and Ulster and Hudson Roads. Formerly bushland, the suburb is now a developing residential area home to Yakamia Primary School, which opened in 1970, and the City of Albany council offices.
