About South Newdegate

South Newdegate is a large rural locality in the Shire of Lake Grace in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 327 kilometres south-east of Perth. The flat, cleared farmland supports broadacre cereal cropping and sheep grazing typical of the eastern Wheatbelt, and the locality sits within the Western Mallee subregion of the Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia. The nearby town of Newdegate, gazetted in 1925 and named after Western Australian Governor Sir Francis Newdegate, hosts the annual Newdegate Machinery Field Days, a major agricultural event held for over fifty years.
