About Sandpatch

Sandpatch is a coastal locality in the City of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean about 40 km west of Albany and bordering Torndirrup National Park. It is the site of the Albany Wind Farm, whose turbines line the coastal ridge, and of the eroded remnant of the former 17 km-long Sand Patch Beach. The Bibbulmun Track passes through, and the lookout offers whale watching and wide views along the rugged coast. In the late 1870s a barrier was built with prison labour to stop shifting dunes filling Princess Royal Harbour. The locality has no permanent residents.
