About Cowalla
Cowalla is a rural locality in the Shire of Gingin north of Perth, Western Australia, of mixed farming and native bushland on the banks of the Moore River. The heritage-listed Cowalla Homestead Group, a rare intact collection of mid-to-late nineteenth century mud brick buildings including a Colonial Georgian residence dating from the 1850s, stands among mature plantings beside the river. The homestead was an important stopping place on the northern stock route and the site of early agricultural experiments on sandy soils.
