About Meekatharra

Meekatharra is a town in the Mid West region of Western Australia, about 764 km north-east of Perth on the Great Northern Highway. A Yamatji name meaning place of little water, it grew as a gold rush town at the turn of the 20th century and later served as the railhead for the Canning Stock Route. Today it is a major supply centre for the surrounding pastoral and mining district, with a Royal Flying Doctor Service base and School of the Air.
