About Koolanooka

Koolanooka is a small town in the Mid West of Western Australia, between Morawa and Perenjori. It began as a station on the Mullewa to Wongan Hills railway, gazetted as a townsite in 1916. The Koolanooka Hills nearby were the site of the state's first iron ore mine, which opened in 1966 and shipped ore to Japan before closing in the 1970s; mining resumed in 2010.
