About Irwin
Irwin is a locality in the Mid West of Western Australia, on the Irwin River about 17 km east of Dongara. The river was named in 1839 by the explorer George Grey after Frederick Irwin, and the district's first European settlement began here in 1851, when Lockier Burges took up the Irwin House homestead site. The riverside country had long been home to the Wattandee people, and Irwin is now a farming district in the Dongara hinterland.
