About Paraburdoo
Paraburdoo is a mining town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, located 1,528 kilometres north of Perth. Developed in the early 1970s to support Hamersley Iron (Rio Tinto) iron ore operations, its name derives from the Aboriginal word 'Pirupardu' meaning 'feathered meat', referring to corellas. It is a purpose-built town servicing the Paraburdoo, Channar, Eastern Range, and Western Range mines in the arid Pilbara landscape.
