About Karijini
Karijini is a vast, sparsely settled rural locality in the Pilbara region of north-west Western Australia, within the Shire of Ashburton, on the traditional land of the Banyjima, Kurrama and Innawonga peoples. The name is the Banyjima word for the Hamersley Range, the rugged range that gives its name to Karijini National Park, Western Australia's second largest national park, formerly Hamersley Range National Park and renamed in 1991. Its gorges, including Dales, Hancock and Joffre, are carved into rock more than 2.5 billion years old.
