About Derby (WA)

Derby is a town on King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, one of only three Kimberley towns with a population over 2,000. Founded in 1883 and named after the British secretary of state for the colonies, it was the terminus of the first scheduled aviation service in Australia, begun in 1921. King Sound has the highest tides in Australia, with a range of up to 11.8 metres, and Derby serves the surrounding pastoral and mining industries.
