About Willagee
Willagee is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located 15 kilometres south-southwest of the central business district within the City of Melville. The name derives from Willagee Swamp, a now-reclaimed wetland whose name comes from the Noongar word "wilgee" meaning "red ochre". Established in 1952 as a post-war housing estate by the State Housing Commission, the suburb was developed primarily to house workers employed in the nearby industrial areas of Fremantle, with some dwellings prefabricated homes imported from Austria. Bounded by Leach Highway to the north and North Lake Road to the east, Willagee features the Willagee Public Library, a community centre, and several parks and reserves across its flat, low-lying coastal plain terrain.
