About Mornington (WA)
Mornington, also known as Mornington Mills, is a locality on the Darling Range in Western Australia, about 47 kilometres from Bunbury and east of the South Western Highway. It was a company town of the timber company Millars, fully operational by 1899 and at its peak home to a school, two churches, a hall and a company store. On 6 November 1920 a timber train derailed on the line from Mornington Mills, killing nine people in what remains Western Australia's worst rail accident. The town closed in 1961 when its workers moved to Yarloop, and the mill site later served as the Camp Mornington youth camp until 2020.
