About Cowaramup
Cowaramup is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, located 13 kilometres north of Margaret River and 265 kilometres south of Perth, within the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River. Built on traditional lands of the Wardandi people, the name comes from the Wardandi word cowara meaning purple-crowned lorikeet, not from cows despite common misconception. The town was gazetted in 1925 and is roughly central to the Margaret River wine region, near Vasse Felix, Howard Park Wines and the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. In 2012 the town installed 42 lifesize fibreglass cow sculptures as a tourist attraction and in 2014 set a Guinness World Record for the largest group dressed as cows with 1,352 people.
