About Gorae West
Gorae West is a rural locality about 15 kilometres north-west of Portland in the Shire of Glenelg, Victoria, on the Portland-Nelson Road. Its name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word for kangaroo. The district was originally forested and supplied timber to Portland before selections were taken up for grazing and apple orcharding; the local hall and CFA station, built in 1957, anchor the community.
